The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games provide our students with a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the excitement of an international event held in our province! We encourage you to take advantage of the many 2010-related education opportunities, including:
Olympic Truce Program: The Make Your Peace Olympic Truce program invites students to dream big and get inspired by the Olympic Spirit to make peace at home and in their communities. The Make Your Peace Olympic Truce Guide contains activity ideas that encourage young people to plan and organize peace projects and learn and practice peaceful behaviour. To download the Make Your Peace guide, visit vancouver2010.com/EDU, Canada’s school portal for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.
Student Welcome Cards: Thank you to the hundreds of schools, and thousands of students, that submitted art for the Student Welcome Cards Program. The deadline for submissions has passed. The unique cards will showcase the talent of BC K-12 students, help to extend a warm welcome to our 2010 Winter Games visitors, and also enhance Canada's reputation for hospitality and friendliness.
Sharing the Dream Webcast Series: On November 5, 2009, the first Sharing the Dream webcast of the 2009-10 school year took place. The webcast theme was “Paralympism: Inclusion and Diversity,” and a panel of students interviewed Paralympic athletes Andrea Holmes and Donovan Tildesley about their experiences living with a disability and competing in the Paralympic Games.
The next Sharing the Dream webcast will take place on February 4, 2010 and the theme will be “Olympic Truce: Make Your Peace.” To view previous Sharing the Dream webcasts and for more information on future webcasts, visit the Sharing the Dream webcast page.
